Iran's President Mohammad Khatami, heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, left Tehran for Islamabad Monday on a three-day official visit, for talks on regional and bilateral issues, IRNA reported.
The Iranian president is on his first tour to Pakistan at the invitation of Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf. Iranian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Kamal Kharrazi, Road and Transportation, Ahmad Khorram as well as Minister of Defense Rear-Admiral Ali Shamkhani are accompanying the President on his official visit.
Khatami on Sunday met with the Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei prior to his visit to Pakistan. Khatami will hold wide-ranging talks with his Pakistani counterpart General Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.
The President will later proceed to the eastern city of Lahore for a one-day visit. In Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, the Iranian President will meet Pakistani traders to discuss ways to boost economic relations. (Albawaba.com)
