Jordan’s King Abdullah will donate prizes to the Jordanian Music Festival, a non-yearly event.
The King will reach into his own pocket, in order to come up with prizes which he expects will encourage musicians to participate in the festival’s events.
According to ‘Al Khaleej’ newspaper, the King established the festival in a clear message to his government on his stand towards the importance of cultural reform in the kingdom. The King wants the government to work on making the country the number one country for cultural events in the Arab world by the year 2002.
President of the festival, Wafa’a Qsous said that the most important aspect of the project is that it comes as a personal effort from King Abdullah and his wife Queen Rania, who also heads the festival’s higher committee.
Qsous also commented on Queen Rania’s role in the festival saying that “she follows up on all the aspects of the event so that the festival is as successful as she would like it to be.”
Added Qsous, “we are striving to have the festival become the best in the Arab world and an event that will give Jordan’s talent a chance to shine" - Albawaba.com.
