Attackers shot dead the head of Kirkuk's education department on Tuesday, police said.
Ibrahim Ismael was killed in a drive-by shooting as he drove to work in Kirkuk, said police Col. Sarhat Qadir.
The motive of the killing was unclear, but Ismael, an ethnic Turkman, had been criticized in the past by Kurds for appointing only Turkman officials to key posts in the department, which oversees primary and secondary schools in the city.
Meanwhile, fighters opened fire on three policemen as they left a restaurant in Kirkuk early Tuesday, wounding three of them, Qadir said. Another policeman was injured when a roadside bomb exploded near his police patrol late Monday, Qadir said. (Albawaba.com)
