The Knesset's legal committee has passed the first reading of a bill allowing doctors to stop treating terminally ill patients, if they request an end to treatment, Israel Radio reported Monday.

The constitution, law and justice committee passed the bill, which was proposed by MK Anat Maor, said the radio, cited by Haaretz newspaper.

It allows the doctor to stop the treatment if the patient expresses this wish in the presence of two witnesses.

Religious and ultra-Orthodox MKs supported the bill; however, they requested that it be delayed until a panel of experts from the health ministry presents their findings on the issue in four months – Albawaba.com
