Kuerten Conquers Hamburg Title After Destroying Safin

Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten conquered the $2.95 million Hamburg series Masters final Sunday after destroying Russia's Marat Safin in a weary but very powerful 3 hrs and 51 minutes. 

The 12th-seed that Saturday overpowered Chile's Marcelo Rios in straight sets, fell victim to the Brazilian (6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6). 

The champion who has six Tour titles to his name to date, had earlier defeated Romanian qualifier Andrei Pavel (6-3, 6-3) -- AFP
