Kurdish ministers who had previously suspended their participation in outgoing Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s government have rejoined the Iraqi government, Reuters reports.
“I am back in Baghdad as a foreign minister,” said Hoshiyar Zebari, a Kurd.
According to Reuters, Kurdish ministers pulled out of Iraq’s government after Maliki made inflammatory statements about the Kurdish community.
Iraq has been struggling to form a new government while simultaneously battling militants from the Islamic State. Maliki has stepped down from his post after intense pressure from fellow Iraqis and the international community.
