Kuwait election: Female candidates fail to win seats

Kuwait's first parliamentary elections in which women could vote ended in a victory for political reformists but with a huge disappointment for female candidates as none of whom won a seat, according to official results Friday.

Reform candidates won 36 of the 50 parliamentary seats in results of the vote published by the state-owned Kuwait News Agency. Twenty-one of them held seats in the previous parliament that the emir, Kuwait's ruler, dissolved last month.

There were 27 women running in the elections, but none of them won a seat.
