Kuwait has ordered ammunition from the United States in a deal worth 150 million dollars, Defense Minister Sheikh Salem al-Sabah said Saturday.
Sheikh Sabah, quoted in Al-Anba newspaper, said the deal would strengthen Kuwait's defenses and capability.
The ammunition was needed for US arms purchased by the emirate after its liberation in 1991 from seven months of Iraqi occupation, the minister said, without giving details.
Kuwait has bought billions of dollars worth of US weaponry since the 1991 Gulf War.
Last week, Sheikh Salem said a controversial 436-million-dollar deal to buy 48 pieces of US howitzers would not be signed before clearance from parliament, where many MPs oppose the deal because they allege the guns are outdated.
