A Kuwait-based group opposed to ties with Israel slammed the Camp David peace talks on Tuesday and urged Gulf Arab states to refuse to finance any settlement of Palestinian refugees outside their homeland.
"We urge the GCC states to unite against efforts by international Zionism to make the Gulf foot the bill for the Zionist crimes in Palestine," said the Popular Congress for Struggle against Normalization with Israel in the Gulf.
It was referring to reports that Gulf states would be asked to finance the resettlement of some four million Palestinian refugees.
"We call on the Arab people to pressure their governments to confront Zionist stubbornness and US pressure and to prevent the liquidation of the cause," the group's spokesman MP Abdullah al-Naibari said in a statement.
The forum also blasted what it described as "a suspicious Arab silence" toward the talks, which it said were more crucial than the 1978 Camp David peace negotiations between Israel and Egypt.
Kuwaiti opposition groups in April launched the congress to block any Israeli attempt to enter the oil-rich region.
Oman and Qatar have commercial relations with Israel, but no Gulf country has diplomatic ties.
Kuwaiti lawmakers last month presented a bill to parliament, signed by Islamist and liberal MPs, to prevent the Gulf Arab emirate from cutting any deal with the Jewish state - KUWAIT CITY (AFP)
