Kuwaiti Information Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahd described his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in Moscow as positive, according to the Kuwaiti official news agency (KUNA).
He told KUNA Friday that the talks centered on the Kuwait-Iraq status, touched on the recent UN Security Council resolutions as well as the Mideast and Palestinian issues.
The meeting came amidst growing Russian support for Iraq at the Security Council. The country was able to abort a UK resolution aiming at introducing changes to the UN sanctions on Baghdad, which Iraq and other Arab countries had rejected.
The minister said that the Russian side is aware of the risks which the Middle East suffers in light of the policy followed by Israeli premier Ariel Sharon that warns of being blown out to a wide scale military action with unpredictable dimensions.
He said the Kuwaiti side underlined collective international moves to control the military escalation whose dangers are well clear, and called for not raising this issue during the industrial states conference slated by end of this month in Genoa to establish peace in the region – Albawaba.com
