ALBAWABA - The National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan said that a coup attempt had been successfully prevented, and that possible violence and instability that may have put civilian lives at jeopardy had been avoided.
Kyrgyz security personnel were able to eliminate every member of the coup plotting organization. Over thirty people were arrested by Kyrgyz security services early in June on suspicion of planning the coup. The dissolution of the gang responsible for the takeover was certified by the National Security Committee.
"To ensure the safety of citizens and uphold the constitutional order, we suppressed the illegal activities of a group planning to seize power through violence and destabilize the country by inciting mass riots and disturbances," the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan stated in an official statement.
The message made clear that members of the gang had extreme religious views in addition to criminal ideals. Four Kyrgyz people were taken into custody and detained temporarily after protracted investigation efforts.
The State Committee also disclosed that "during searches of the detainees' homes and vehicles, security forces discovered and confiscated components for explosive devices, firearms, ammunition, radios, bulletproof vests, law enforcement uniforms, drones, extremist literature, and other prohibited materials."
As more information becomes available, officials promise to share the details of ongoing investigations and activities.
Its boundaries are shared by China to the east, Tajikistan to the southeast, Uzbekistan to the west and southwest, and Kazakhstan to the north. Its major city and capital is Bishkek.
