Iran has released on bail Sunday the last British embassy employee arrested on charges of inciting violence in last month’s post-election demonstrations.
Hossein Rassam, 44, was among a group of nine British embassy staff arrested on June 27 following pro-democracy demonstrations in response to the disputed June 12 presidential elections that saw the reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinijad.
According to Press TV, Rasam allegedly played a major role in providing guidance to British diplomats and media during the demonstrations.
The other eight were released within days, but Rassam, a political analyst for the embassy, remained in Evin prison in Tehran until being bailed out.
“He is fine and seems not to be having any problem,” his lawyer said before adding that a bail of 1 billion rials had been paid for his release. Rassam is to be tried at an unspecified date for allegedly threatening Iranian national security.
