The lawsuit against the leading Moroccan Islamist Nadia Yassine, on the charge of "An attack on the monarchy", was presented last week in front of the Moroccan court of first authority in Rabat, and was scheduled to continue on a later date, yet to be announced.
Mrs. Yassine, the semi-official spokesman of the Islamist movement Al Adl Wal Ihssane (Justice and benevolence) and the daughter of sheikh Abdessalam Yassine, who directs it, is persecuted for expressing her "personnel inclination" to a republican system preferably with "an autocratic mode."
<i>EMarrakech</i> reports that outside the court house, behind cords of police officers, approximately four hundred people had gathered to express, un-violently, their support to her and that the court house itself was also completely packed with people.
If Mrs. Yassine found guilty she will be liable to a period of 3 to 5 years of prison and to a fine of 10.000 to 100.000 dirhams (900 to 9.000 euros).
At the same time, the proceedings against Abdelaziz Koukas, the director of the weekly magazine, Al Ousbouia Al Jadida (The New Week), which published Mrs. Yassine’s remarks on June 2, also continues.
