Leading Italian electrical steel processing company to set up first ME facility in Jafza

Italy-based, Legnano Teknoelectric Company (LTC), leading processor of electrical steel and manufacturer of magnetic cores for transformers, announced that it will establish its first manufacturing plant in the Middle East in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza).

The manufacturing plant, covering an area of 27,500 square metres, will process grain oriented electrical steel, from coils right up to fully built magnetic cores for distribution and electrical power transformers. The facility will have an 80 Mton (M is for metric) lifting capacity, processing thousands of Mtons of electrical steel a month including conventional grade, high permeability, laser treated and non-oriented electrical steel.

Daniele Bertelli, Board Director of Legnano Teknoelectric Company Middle East FZE said: "Since its inception, LTC has employed the optimum use of research, resources and production technologies to create the very best for its clients. In just twenty years, LTC has become a leading business in the sector. One of the reasons for the company's success is its ability to recognise and capitalise on emerging markets together with one business view shared by all the Bertelli siblings, Aurelio, Gianluigi and me, who are the shareholders and constitute the Board of Directors of the company. LTC's first facility in the Middle East is a milestone event. Dubai and Jafza in particular is the right springboard for our regional operations and we are confident that our expertise can add more value to the energy sector in the region."

Shehab Mesmar, Senior VP, Commercial Sales, Jafza – UAE region said: "Facilitating development and capacity building in the country's core sectors such as energy is one of our mandates. LTC's know-how and superior products will be of immense benefit to the region. We are very pleased to welcome Legnano Teknoelectric to the Jafza community. Jafza and LTC are partners for the long-haul and the Free Zone will do everything in its capacity to provide the right logistics support to facilitate the company's business in the region." Jafza Official, Tariq Bin Ghalaita, VP, Commercial Sales UAE- Region met with a Legnano representative at a signing ceremony held in Dubai recently.

The new facility, scheduled to open by 2012, will employ cutting edge technology to deliver products in just a few days to markets in Asia and the Middle East that are currently three or four weeks away by sea.

Mauro Mereghetti, Manager of Legnano Tecnoelectric Company Middle East FZE said: "LTC prides itself on working alongside its clients, not only to reduce the shipping times and costs, but also to share know-how and experience built up in over half a century to find the most suitable solutions for their continually evolving needs. The company's flexible production process allows us to meet the demands of small, medium and large manufacturers. The new facility is well positioned to help us do this effectively. Jafza's proximity to a seaport and an airport allowing easy access to Europe, Asia and Africa and its benefits in costs, services and logistics made it a natural choice as our base in the region."

Legnano Teknoelectric Company S.p.A. was founded in 1983 by the Bertelli family. The company's four production plants provide a full range of products including slit to width, cut laminations and built cores for the manufacture of distribution and power tranformers, traction transformers, furnace tranformers, dry type low voltage transformers and high voltage line reactors. The production cycle is operated through the most advanced lines both for processing of electrical steel and production of steel clamps needed for the assembly of fully built cores.
