Leading Us Ophthalmologist To Speak At Vision-X Dubai

Emirates Ophthalmology Society (EMAOS), in collaboration with Vision-X Dubai, presents the 2nd Emirates Cataract and Refractive Surgery Meeting (ECRS), on the 18 May at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Held alongside Vision- X Dubai 2009 the region’s premier business exhibition for the optical and ophthalmic industry, this dedicated event will bring together some of the world’s top ophthalmologists and surgeons to demonstrate the latest theories and practices to ophthalmologists, optometrists, mid-level eye care providers and ophthalmic nurses.

International speakers include leading US Ophthalmologist Dr. Kim Terry, a professor of refractive surgery at Duke University, USA, who will demonstrate the latest technology in cornea disease management and refractive surgery as well as other specialists from across the region

Dr. Manal Taryam, President of the Emirates Ophthalmic Society commented "Dr. Terry's clinical and research work has earned him honors and grants from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), National Institutes of Health, Fight for Sight/Research to Prevent Blindness, and Heed Ophthalmic Foundation. The conference will touch base on cornea disorders and their management, the latest technology in refractive surgery as well as updates in cataract surgery."

Regional key speakers including experts from Oman, will join UAE experts from both the governmental and private sector to deliver a comprehensive and up-to-date scientific programme at the ECRS meeting.

“There is a regional requirement to bring practices and theories in ophthalmology up to the same standards that dominate this field worldwide, and by bringing together the pioneers in this field and our local experts, we hope to be able to help achieve this important aim,” said Dr. Manal Taryam. “We hope that the ECRS meeting will be of significant relevance for attendees and that they will have a better idea of the techniques being described by learning from the international experts".

All attendees will receive a ‘Certificate of Continuing Medical Education’, the professional accreditation that enables Optometrists to continue learning and practising. This approach to vocational training is indicative of the way Vision-X Dubai will combine industry and professional needs.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to visit the Vision-X Dubai Exhibition where they can source the latest products and services. Split into two sub-brand segments: Vision-Opticare which showcases ophthalmic, optometric and technical equipment, instruments and machinery and Vision-Lifestyle featuring the very latest in fashion eyewear and accessories, the event delivers over 130 companies from 20 countries including first time exhibit from Malaysia and an increased presence from France, Germany and Italy.

Vision-X Dubai will be held in Sheikh Rashid hall at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) from 17 - 19 May 2009 10am -7pm.

The Vision-X Dubai and ECRS Joint Meeting, organised by Emirates Medical Association Ophthalmic Society (EMAOS) will be held on 18 May 2009.
