ALBAWABA - According to a revelation published on the website Declassified, the British military has given the IDF operational assistance and clandestine advise with an emphasis on psychological warfare and cyberattacks.
Leaked papers reveal that Israeli military authorities and the British Army's 77th Brigade, a psychological operations unit, had covert meetings on strategy and tactics. The study pointed out: "The files show how the 77th Brigade, known for its expertise in psychological warfare, conducted secret communications with the IDF to discuss techniques related to modern warfare, particularly cyber operations."
The British army employs social media and psychological operations to impact battle in the digital age, according to the Declassified study. Two covert meetings between Israeli and British soldiers occurred at the 77th Brigade's headquarters in Hermitage, Berkshire, in 2018 and 2019, according to papers that were acquired via hacking by the Anonymous for Justice organization.
The website also said that in order to defend military activities, such as bombings on Gaza, Israeli military media operations used fabricated social media profiles and edited recordings.
Due to claims of war crimes and genocide in Gaza, Israel is presently under international investigation. Meanwhile, the British Ministry of Defense has declined to comment on its cooperation with Israel, claiming the need of maintaining military secret. The ministry has refused to respond to questions from the legislature or demands for Freedom of Information about whether this cooperation is still going on.
The Joint Services Command and Staff College specialist Professor Paul Rogers responded to the disclosures by saying, "These documents underscore the deep ties between British and Israeli psychological warfare units." At all levels, there is an urgent need for more openness.
In response, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense said: "The UK frequently carries out non-operational defense operations with allies overseas. These operations adhere strictly to international humanitarian law and concentrate on best practices." Regarding the continuation of psychological warfare cooperation with Israel, however, no information was provided.
