ALBAWABA- A purported peace plan attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump has surfaced, outlining a Ukraine-Russia ceasefire by April 20, barring Ukraine from NATO membership, and recognizing Russian control over annexed territories, as reported by Daily Mail.
The document, first reported by Ukrainian outlet Strana, details a diplomatic framework aimed at ending the three-year-long war.
The alleged plan includes direct negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the creation of a demilitarized zone patrolled by European (but not U.S.) forces, Ukraine’s withdrawal from Russia’s Kursk region, and a gradual lifting of sanctions on Russian energy exports.
Ukraine has denied the existence of such a plan, while Trump has yet to confirm or refute the leak.
Notably, Trump vowed during his election campaign to end the war on his first day in office. Upon assuming the presidency, he appointed a special envoy tasked with brokering a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine within 120 days.
However, his approach has sparked concerns in Europe, with the European Union warning that imposing peace on Ukraine under such terms could come at the expense of its sovereignty.
If genuine, the plan would represent a major shift in the conflict’s trajectory, effectively halting Ukraine’s NATO ambitions—one of Moscow’s core demands since its full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022.
Russia had long cited NATO’s eastward expansion and the deployment of advanced Western weaponry in Ukraine as a violation of previous security pacts, framing its military actions as a defensive response.
The leak also raises broader questions about Trump’s foreign policy approach. While he has long criticized U.S. involvement in prolonged conflicts and expressed skepticism toward NATO, any concessions to Russia could provoke a backlash from European allies and lawmakers in Washington.
