At least 20 militants were killed in clashes Tuesday with Hezbollah and the Syrian army, Al-Manar reported.

"Hezbollah and the Syrian army killed no less than 20 militants after they were trying to sneak toward Bassatine Bkin and Madaya, both located south of Zabadani," the Hezbollah-run TV station said.

Among those killed was Mohammad Nazih al-Khaws, a "prominent field commander in the Liwaa al-Forsan" rebel group, the report said.

A source close to Hezbollah told The Daily Star that two party fighters were killed in clashes Monday.

At least 17 Hezbollah fighters, 28 Syrian army soldiers and dozens of militants have killed in Zabadani clashes since they began about one month ago.

Hezbollah and the Syrian army tightened the screws on militants holed up in the center of the embattled border town over the weekend, with a victory for the allies seen as imminent.
