At least 38 people, most of them civilians, have been killed and many others wounded in inter-clan fighting this week in southern Somalia's Middle Shabelle region, travelers arriving in Mogadishu from the area told AFP on Tuesday.
The violence took place on Monday, the travelers said.
On Saturday, four Somali warlords warned the international community not to recognize the newly elected president Abdulkassim Salat Hassan and a parliament-in-exile, saying it could lead to civil war, and called instead for a new peace conference.
Somalia has lacked a central government since the 1991 overthrow of Mohamed Siad Barre, and has been ruled by clan-based factions since then -- MOGADISHU (AFP)
