Five people, including a two-year-old child and her grandmother, died in a series of shooting attacks in the northern city of Mosul on Sunday, police said. According to AFP, the woman and her granddaughter were killed when unknown gunmen stormed their house in Tanak neighbourhood, in the west of the city.

Three Iraqi security force members also died in separate shooting incidents, a police official said.

In Baghdad, at least one person died and 11 were hurt in two bombing attacks, Iraqi defence and interior ministry officials said. A car bombing in Baladiyat killed one civilian and injured six others. In addition, a roadside bomb in Karrada left five people wounded.

Meanwhile, Iraq's anti-terror units broke up 18 networks and made dozens of arrests last month but failed to prevent Baghdad truck bombings that killed 95 people, an Iraqi military officer said on Sunday. According to him, those detained included members of the Islamic State of Iraq, an alliance of several groups headed by Al-Qaeda, as well as followers of the Baath party.

"The anti-terrorist force dismantled 18 networks across Iraq," the senior officer, said. "We have also arrested 66 terrorists, Arabs of different nationalities," he said, according to AFP. Since the huge bombings Iraq has accused Syria of supporting the terrorist networks behind them.
