A military court sentenced 57 former South Lebanon Army (SLA) members on Tuesday to prison terms ranging from three weeks to 15 years for various degrees of collaboration or contact with Israel, reported The Associated Press.
Two other defendants, who were tried in absentia, were sentenced to life imprisonment for collaborating with Israel, the court said in a judgment posted on its bulletin board, said the AP.
The accused were the 15th batch of alleged collaborators to be tried following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon on May 24th.
The court, whose verdicts cannot be appealed, has sentenced more than 800 people to jail terms of up to 15 years.
Lebanese who served in the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army have tended to receive years-long prison terms, while those who visited northern Israel on excursions have gotten sentences of a few weeks, the AP said - Albawaba.com
