Over 3,000 young and old Lebanese women and men, liberal and conservative took to the streets of Beirut to demand an end to poverty and violence against women, on Sunday during a march championing women's rights, the Daily Star reported Monday.
The event was part of The World March for Women, an international effort that will culminate in a march and conference in New York next month.
The march was organized by the Lebanese Council to Resist Violence Against Women, the daily added.
Although poverty and violence against women were the main concerns for the marchers, other issues were also highlighted, including discrimination within Lebanon's family laws, the prejudices of the Social Security system, and the right of Palestinian women to return to their homeland, the paper said, quoting Caroline Sleibeh, the member of the organizing committee as saying - Albawaba.com
