A Lebanese nuclear physics student living in France was killed under uncertain circumstances, security sources told The Daily Star Wednesday.
The young man, identified as Hisham Salim Mourad, is from the southern town of Braikeh in Nabatieh. He was studying at the Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble, and was in the last year of his master’s degree.
Details of the timing and cause of death have not been revealed but the deceased’s family told The Daily Star that French authorities are investigating. They did not want to provide further comment until investigations were completed.
The Lebanese security sources said they had received their information from “foreign sources.”
The Daily Star met with Mourad’s family in the Nabatieh town of Haboush, where they were in mourning and receiving condolences.
They said Mourad’s brother, who is also studying in France, had told them of Mourad’s death on Tuesday over the phone.
