Security forces detained two Palestinians in the northern port of Tripoli as they were trying to flee the country to Turkey, a security source told The Daily Star Friday.
The two men, identified as Youssef Nawfal and Mohammad Hourani, are wanted by the Lebanese judiciary, the source said.
They were attempting to flee Lebanon via the sea using fake identification papers.
The two suspects reside in the southern Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, the source added, saying that one of them is the son of a prominent Palestinian leader and the other belongs to an armed Islamist group at the camp.
It is not clear if they were heading to Turkey en route to Syria to join Islamist groups, or were traveling for other purposes.
Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict four years ago, dozens of Islamist youths have joined the fighting against President Bashar Assad in Syria.
The overcrowded and impoverished camp is considered a transit point to extremists wishing to join the uprising in Lebanon’s biggest neighbor.
