The sound of an explosion heard in the northeastern border town of Arsal was reportedly caused by a stun grenade, state media reported Tuesday.

The National News Agency said that the grenade was thrown near the Fleiti gas station in Wadi Atta, causing only material damage.

Arsal municipality Monday night began implementing a curfew imposed on Syrian refugees to contain the town's increasing crime rates, the most recent being the attempted murder of mukhtar Mohammad Alouli last week.

The curfew on Syrian refugees residing in the town will be in place from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. every day.

Towns across Lebanon have been imposing curfews on Syrians since the outbreak of the crisis in the country. However, Arsal, which hosts tens of thousands of refugees, had not introduced such a measure before.

Hundreds of Daesh and Nusra Front militants are believed to be holed up on the outskirts of Arsal and Al-Qaa.
