The Lebanese Telecommunications Ministry announced Thursday that it will complete the installation of telephone lines in the southern part of the country by February 2002, said the Daily Star, quoting an official statement by the ministry.

The announcement said the ministry, which is now building and equipping 25 telephone exchange centers in the southern areas, will set up digital AXE switchboards that will enable residents of the south to subscribe to various services.

The $25 million exchange will include other services such as the CLIP option allowing users to know the number calling them. Companies will be contracted in June 2001 to install the telephone networks for the project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2001.

About $30 million will be provided to install around 45,000 lines beginning in July, said the daily.

Subscribers will start benefiting from phone lines starting February 2002 in successive phases – Albawaba.com
