Israel's Former Foreign Minister David Levy announced that he will back right-wing Likud leader Ariel Sharon in prime-ministerial elections scheduled for February 6, reported Haaretz newspaper.

Levy told Israel Radio on Monday that the concessions Prime Minister Ehud Barak was prepared to make to the Palestinians would endanger the state of Israel, and that was the reason he had left the government after Barak returned from the Camp David peace summit in July.

In the last few years, Levy has zigzagged between the two major parties.

In 1996 he backed Benjamin Netanyahu, became foreign minister in his government, fell out with the prime minister and resigned. While in 1999, he supported Barak and again became foreign minister, only to resign earlier this year, according to the paper -- Albawaba.com
