Clashes between rival militias in Libya’s capital have killed 47 people in the past 24 hours, Associated Press reports. The battle for control of Tripoli’s international airport resumed Sunday after ceasefire efforts failed. The fighting has left 120 people wounded.

According to AP, the clashes between militants from Zintan and militants from Misrata have lasted a week as both groups fight to control the airport. The ongoing violence has caused extensive damage to numerous airplanes and the airport itself.

Libya’s militias have grown powerful since the overthrow of Moammar Gaddafi in 2011, with militias frequently attacking government forces as well as each other.
