Libya's General People's Congress, the parliament in Moamer Kadhafi's unique regime, announced a ministerial reshuffle Saturday which saw the information ministry scrapped, state television reported.
Information Minister Fawziyah Shalabi was dismissed and her ministry abolished, it said, following a meeting of the congress in the northeastern city of Sirte.
Justice and Public Security Minister Mohammed Belgacem Zuwai was replaced by Abdel Rahman al-Abbar, while Al-Azili Brini replaced Mohammed Beit al-Mal as finance minister, the report said.
Former oil minister Abdullah al-Badri was named to the general secretariat of the GPC, the equivalent of the prime minister's office, leaving his post as director of the general commission for oil.
The GPC carried out a major re-shuffle back in March, dissolving 14 ministries in favor of commissions supposedly in the charge of local authorities and creating a new one - the ministry of African unity.
In line with the principles of Kadhafi, the Libyan Jamahiriya (state of the masses) is governed by nationwide people's committees, in which ordinary citizens take part and thereby exercise "direct democracy."
Kadhafi does not describe himself as a traditional head of state but as the inspiration and guide of the Jamahiriya, although he is the country's de facto leader -- TRIPOLI (AFP)
