A car bomb attack in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi killed an intelligence officer and his two-year old son, security officials said Monday.
Officials speaking to the Associated Press said Sueliman El Fasy and his son were killed Sunday night in the Quraish neighborhood in a blast that targeted the family. El Fasy's pregnant wife suffered burns and his eight-month son was hospitalized.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to AP because they were not authorized to brief journalists.
Benaghazi has been host to frequent violent attacks in the past year, including the deaths of dozens of security officials and string of attacks targeting foreign diplomatic posts that has resulted in an exodus of diplomats from the city.
Libya's 2011 uprising against former President Muammar Gaddafi began in Benghazi. It was also the scene of the violent attack that killed US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11, 2012.
