The Social Affairs Office in Zliten announced that over 400 families displaced by fighting in Sirte have been relocated to Zliten.

Militant group Daesh has built a stronghold in Sirte. Between fighting with local groups and US airstrikes against militants, over 25,000 families have evacuated Sirte for nearby towns.

Zliten is a small coastal city in northern Libya, with about 230,000 people. Daesh orchestrated a truck bombing in the city in January 2016, killing over 60 police officers.

The Zliten Social Affairs Office is struggling to provide for the recent influx of people from Sirte. The education office is attempting to enroll all displaced students at local schools. The health sector is offering services and aid to families in need of medical care.

The International Red Cross and Taher Al Zawi Charity organization are present in the city to assess the humanitarian need and provide a support structure for the long-term aid.
