While London's LYCEE school has reportedly refused MADONNA's non-
French-speaking daughter LOURDES a place, the sister school in Los
Angeles has told the pop star "we will teach her French."
The MATERIAL GIRL had set her heart on sending three year old
Lourdes to the French school; but sources close to the star
revealed the tot had been turned down by the London school because
she spoke insufficient French.
Madonna recently bought a Spanish style villa in Beverly Hills
and the Los Angeles Lycee, who have been holding a place for
Lourdes after the singer made inquiries, have told the star they
will get her daughter's French up to the required standard.
Spokeswomen for Los Angeles Lycee MADAME MARCELLA says, "at this
school in Los Angeles only 35 per cent of the three to four year
olds speak good French. We translate for them until they become
really fluent. Then they are able just to speak French.
"When the child comes here we will encourage her not to speak any
English but we have no problem with the fact her French is not
good."
Little Lourdes will be banned from talking her mother tongue at
the $6,400 a term school until she is five when she will
be allowed to speak English for one hour a day.
On another note, although the expecting mother is now in her sixth month of pregnancy, she has been spotted at London health club HOLMES PLACE up to three times a week working out on the exercise bike.
The actress/singer is expecting her second child, with LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS director GUY RITCHIE, in September--WENN
