Lufthansa flies Olympic participants to Peking
German participants travel to Olympic Games with Germany’s biggest airline

As the official partner of the German Olympic Sports Federation, Lufthansa again this year flew Germany’s sporting elite to the Olympic Games. Around 80 participants, especially from the rowing and women’s football team took off from Frankfurt.  At the official farewell in departures concourse A, Dr. Karl Rudolf Rupprecht, Lufthansa’s head of hub management in Frankfurt as well as representatives of Fraport, the German Olympic Sports Federation and the German Sport Foundation wished the Olympic competitors all the very best and every success in their sporting mission.

The Lufthansa aircraft on the 8,854 kilometre-route to the Chinese capital was a Boeing 747-400 named after Hamburg. The aircraft seated 330 passengers.  The Flight Pilot was Captain Ulrich Schöttke: With him on the flight deck were Senior First Officer Max Butter and First Officer Sven Jacob. Purserette Elisabeth Rommelfanger and her team of flights attendants was on hand to ensure the wellbeing of the athletes, officials and journalists. The in-flight fare ranged from salmon in mustard sauce with carrots, sugar snap peas and mashed potatoes in Economy to prawns on chilli sauce, Bok Choi cabbage and rice with scrambled egg in Business Class.
