Petrochemical and polymer company LyondellBasell has confirmed attendance at the InnovHealth - Middle East Healthcare Innovations Summit – endorsed by the UAE’s Ministry of Health – in Abu Dhabi.
LyondellBasell – who recently achieved a production milestone of two million tonnes of multimodal HDPE in Europe – is a pioneer in polyolefin technology, production and marketing. It is also one of the world’s major producers of fuels and refined products, including biofuels.
According to global marketing manager of healthcare applications at LyondellBasell, Dr. Michael Luetke: “Innovation is key in healthcare. Although the healthcare industry is generally conservative – because changes mean cost and potentially new risks – innovative products can actually help save costs and make processes more efficient. We aim at contributing to cost efficiency with our new products.”
LyondellBasell’s polymer products are used in a variety of pharmaceutical packaging applications, ranging from prescription pill bottles and lids to medical devices to packaging for over-the-counter medications. According to Luetke, LyondellBasell made the decision to participate at InnovHealth – Middle East Healthcare Innovations Summit so it could reveal its Purell service concept to summit attendees and get specific feedback from other experts.
When asked what the Purell service concept was, Dr. Luetke said: “I would rather not reveal the full details outside of the summit, but what I can say is that any company can claim that it offers polyolefins usable in healthcare products, but to actually do so in a way meaningful to the healthcare industry is something completely different. Meeting the regulatory-driven requirements of polyolefin products used in healthcare products can only be achieved over time, with expertise and experience. LyondellBasell’s Purell polyolefin range includes low and high density polyethylene as well as polypropylene products tailored to the application areas and conversion technologies relevant to the healthcare industry.”
Commenting on what the company hoped to get from the InnovHealth – Middle East Healthcare Innovations Summit, Dr. Luetke said: “Bringing together regional healthcare decision makers, government bodies and authorities is no small feat and we appreciate naseba’s efforts in doing so. Although we have the luxury of being a well-known and accepted supplier, the summit is still a valuable opportunity to find different decision makers and stakeholders in one place to discuss future product and regulatory requirements.”
