The Mayor of Amman, Engineer Omar Maani, reaffirmed that the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) would not expropriate any lands in Jabal Al Qala’a neighborhood, and that none of the houses in the vicinity would be removed or demolished.
During a meeting with a residents committee from Hay Jabal Al Qala’a, which was attended by M.P. Ahmed Al Safadi, Eng. Maani briefed the attendees on the measures undertaken by GAM as a result of his inspection tour of the region on June 6, when he met with the residents and took note of their requests.
The Mayor indicated that a massive lighting project is to be implemented in Jabal Al Qala’a, the completion of which is expected by the beginning of next October.
Eng. Maani explained that GAM was exerting efforts to find a public square adjacent to the celebrated ruins, in which various activities will be held next summer. He stated that GAM had isolated 30 of the old and abandoned houses that constitute health hazards and annoyances to the residents of the region. Furthermore, the Governor of Amman had been addressed, to find a solution to the problem and to remove these public eyesores.
Within this context, Eng. Maani asserted that all comments and suggestions regarding pavements and paving had been incorporated in the region’s 2009 plan, and would be implemented before long by the relevant departments at GAM.
According to the Mayor of Amman, GAM has done maintenance work on Jabal Al Qala’a Club. He added, “The requests of the Club’s employees will be perused, in accordance with the Greater Amman Municipality administrative regulations.”
Eng. Maani urged the residents of Jabal Al Qala’a to take initiative by founding tourist and economic projects that will help strengthen the region’s development. He affirmed GAM’s support of any positive ideas in the field, stemming from its dedication to increasing the public’s participation in decision-making, thus strengthening the relationship between citizens and their City.
Head of Al Madeena district, Eng. Tahseen Al Abbadi, demonstrated the speedy procedures undertaken in terms of spraying and public sanitation campaigns, redistributing waste containers, and upgrading environmental standards on all levels.
He pointed out that GAM was implementing emergency maintenance of all traffic signs until the neighborhood’s guide and information signs were designed, and that GAM would soon commence installing safety nets at the start of Salma Bin Al Akw’a Street.
