Macedonian parliament speaker Stojan Andov announced Saturday that a scheduled debate on a peace accord to end the ethnic Albanian uprising had been cancelled, saying the assembly "could not work under such conditions."

Andov said that a convoy of displaced Macedonians was blocked in ethnic Albanian territory and that National Liberation Army (NLA) rebels were refusing to return to positions they held before the July 5 ceasefire.

"We can't allow citizens to be mistreated and the conditions have not been met for us to work. When the conditions have been met, they will start work again," Andov said in reference to the parliamentary deputies -- SKOPJE (AFP)
