UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum has urged the Arab private sector to fulfill its “humanitarian duties” of providing training and employment to Arabs, and commit to combating social evils by conducting research and public campaigns.

The Dubai Press Club (DPC) said the call came in his keynote speech at the inaugural opening session of the three-day 9th Arab Businessmen Conference and Investors under the theme Invest in IT.

He said that Arab countries had no reason to fear the gap between "us and countries who led the IT revolution" because countries at the forefront of exporting IT expertise were regarded as "useless and hopeless cases" before undertaking those pioneering initiatives.

He underlined the need to focus on Arab investment policies and projects, calling investments in IT the core of all economic policies.

According to Sheikh Maktoum, globalization is gathering momentum, but real benefits will accrue to those who have a strong base of science, technology and research – Albawaba.com
