Malta seminar stresses strong business ties with Dubai

A Dubai Chamber delegation attended a business networking seminar entitled, ‘Business Opportunities in the Middle East and Gulf Region’ organized by Malta Enterprises in the Mediterranean island country recently. The seminar, which focused on ways to create strong business ties between Malta and Dubai, provided a platform for a large number of professionals, entrepreneurs and business people to exchange business ideas and develop synergies for beneficial partnership between the two regions.

In his opening speech, Alan Camilleri, Chairman of Malta Enterprise, the organizers of the event, stressed the central role that Malta Enterprise and the Dubai Chamber play in supporting the business community and investors in the UAE; a region that is currently going through significant economic development on all fronts. He also stated that this was just a stepping stone towards educating the local Malta businessmen about trade prospects available and that there will be more initiatives to look forward to. This was backed by a presentation by Dennis Vella which focused on a number of events being organized in the region.

HE Anthony Tabone, Consul General of Malta in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, spoke about the practical and realistic approach needed when doing business in the Middle East and how to use the Malta Trade Centre in Dubai to gain a foothold in the region. He also highlighted information on Government policies and measures to develop and promote trade.

Hassan Al Hashemi, Director, External Relations of the Dubai Chamber, during his presentation, “Dubai, your hub to doing business in the region”,

 

 

 

noted that Dubai’s direct non-oil trade with Malta reached AED 125 million by
2007, emphasizing that the bilateral trade values between the two countries are expected to increase thanks to the cooperation between Dubai Chamber, the Malta Trade Centre & the Consulate General of Malta in Dubai.


He also met officials of the Malta Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise including Kevin J. Borg (Director General), and Klaus Pedersen (Manager of Trade, Investment, and Internationalization), Tonio Casapinta (Assistant Honorary Treasurer), in the presence of HE Anthony Tabone, Maltese Consul General in Dubai.
