As a result of the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) from Abu Dhabi taking over the majority of shares in MAN Ferrostaal and the subsequent disengagement from the MAN Group, MAN Ferrostaal is increasingly working on a stand-alone basis.
This higher independence will be reflected by the company no longer including the letters â€œMANâ€ in its logo. Instead, the logo will contain the name â€œFerrostaalâ€. Furthermore, the company also plans to change its name from â€œMAN Ferrostaalâ€ to â€œFerrostaalâ€. The exact date when this will happen depends on the entry in the commercial register and is expected in the upcoming days/weeks.
To present the new company image prominently in the public domain, MAN Ferrostaal has decided to significantly increase its sponsorship activities and to partner with Manchester City, the English Premier League football club. Part of the sponsorship deal, which will run until the end of the 2011/2012 season, involves perimeter advertising that will be visible at every home game in the Premier League and in domestic cup competitions, and at every home game in any international competition for which the team qualifies.
During the close season in each of the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012, one game will be played against a German Bundesliga club in the region. MAN Ferrostaal will organise and stage these meetings in conjunction with the marketing company SPORTFIVE. The opponents, venues and dates for these friendly matches will be announced by the company in good time. Manchester City and MAN Ferrostaal have agreed not to reveal the financial amount involved in this sponsorship deal.
Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, Chief Executive Officer of Ferrostaal, said of this sponsorship deal: â€œThe co-operation with Manchester City is an ideal opportunity for Ferrostaal to advertise our company internationally. Football is a sport which is very popular in the countries which are important for us and attracts a great degree of attention there.â€
Mitscherlich stresses that Ferrostaal is also very much involved in sponsorship in Germany and at the site of the company headquarters in Essen. The focuses here are on the social services, culture and education sectors. The examples mentioned by Mitscherlich include the project Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 and the Essen Philharmony, sponsoring scholarships at some universities in the region and the commitment of numerous employees in social services and charities.
