Maroc-Telecom company has posted a turnover of 5.42 billion DH ($542 million) up to last June 30th, marking a growth of 32 percent compared to the corresponding period of 1999, reported Moroccan official news agency (MAP) Tuesday, quoting the company's Chief Executive Officer, Abdeslam Ahizoune.
Maroc-Telecom’s CEO added that the company, which will be shortly listed on the stock exchange, has posted net profits of 1.26 billion DH ($ 100 million), compared to 855 in Jan-June 1999.
Ahizoune ascribed the positive financial performance to the increase in the number of phone subscribers who reached 2,673,937 up to last June 30th, against 1,589,864 up to June 99.
Presently, there are 1.6 million subscribers to Maroc-Telecom's mobile phone network which covers 94 percent of the Moroccan territory, said MAP, adding the state phone company holds the monopoly over land phone lines and is sharing the mobile phone market with an international consortium which bought the second license for over one billion US dollars.
The CEO predicted that users of Maroc Telecom mobile phone lines are expected to exceed 2 million subscribers by end 2000.
The number of surfers using Maroc-Telecom network reached, up to last June 30, 10,341 users of the commuted phone network and 385 users of specialized lines, said MAP – Albawaba.com
