Mayor of Amman Receives Daegu City’s Vice-Mayor for Economic Affairs
In a Quest for Joint Partnerships between Amman and the South Korean City of Daegu

With a long term mission to strengthen the ties he holds with international government and municipal affair officials, Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani recently received an official delegation from Daegu Metropolitan City headed by Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Mr. Bong Kyu Park in Amman.

Visiting Amman from South Korea and accompanied of highly acclaimed specialists in the Medical Industry and International Affairs and Trade, H.E. Mr. Park met with H.E. Mr. Maani in a bilateral talks session. During the discussions, both officials looked into the possibility of forming future collaborations amongst Daegu and Amman. Such partnerships promise cultural, developmental, tourist, medical and childcare advancements for both cities. The talks ended with both parties agreeing to sign a Sister City Agreement bounding the cities of Amman and Daegu.

Mayor Maani highlighted the importance of transferring global knowledge and expertise in the field of Municipal work and that such exchange is destined to allow both parties to obtain sustainable development. He added that the challenges faced by modern cities require the exertion of high levels of group and team efforts and hard work. He explained that such an agreement can open more channels for knowledge and exchange of experience.
“The challenges facing municipal operations can be overcome through hard work, great resolve and effort,” Maani further explained.

In the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Amman Mr. Amer Basheer and the Undersecretary of the Greater Amman Municipality Mr. Ammar Gharaybeh, and other members from GAM’s Municipal Council, members of the Korean delegation gave an elaborate presentation highlighting the features of Daegu City. This presentation focused on the city’s main cultural and touristic attractions along with its industrial developments.

 During their stay, the delegation visited various departments within the Greater Amman Municipality. During their tour, the delegation learned more about GAM’s Master Plan, Amman’s transportation systems, tourist attractions, cultural highlights and future development outlooks. Having listened to a series of presentations from department heads within the Municipality, the members of Korean delegation expressed their admiration for the high level of urban development seen in the city. The delegation also expressed their appreciation of the modernity and authenticity that the city of Amman soulfully combines.

The delegation’s official visit also included a tour of the Jordan University Hospital, the Children’s Museum and the King Hussein Cancer Center.
