Fast-food giant McDonald's on Thursday said its third-quarter earnings rose 1.04 percent from a year earlier to 548.5 million dollars.

Earnings were hurt by the rising value of the dollar, and would have been up six percent on a constant currency basis, the company said.

Per share earnings were in line with forecasts at 41 cents.

Revenues rose to 3.749 billion dollars in the three month period from 3.444 billion last year.

Chairman and chief executive Jack Greenberg said the results show "McDonald's continues to be in demand by the 43 million customers we serve each day around the world."

"Moving forward, we will pursue additional growth by intensifying our focus on building sales at existing restaurants," he added.

The company said the falling euro hurt earnings by that "the actual economic impact on our business is much less than for many other global businesses" -- OAK BROOK (AFP)
