McDonald's in Saudi Arabia to Make Ramadan Donation to Palestinians

Saudi branches of McDonald's, the world's biggest fast food chain, will donate 26 cents from every meal bought during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan to Palestinian hospitals, Al-Riyadh newspaper said Tuesday.

The month of dawn-to-dusk fasting is a period of high food sales in the Gulf for evening and overnight feasts.

But McDonald's, like other American fast food chains in the kingdom, is currently suffering a slump following calls from leading Gulf clerics for a boycott of US products in protest at Washington's support for Israel.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces since the end of September have left around 290 dead, mostly Palestinians.

Saudi Arabia has evacuated 102 Palestinians wounded in clashes in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to be treated in the kingdom's hospitals. Two of them have died in the kingdom from their injuries – RIYADH (AFP)
