Dr. Buddy Soubra appointed as Senior Advisor for Transactions at MerchantBridge

MerchantBridge today announced the appointment of Dr. Buddy Soubra as Senior Advisor for Transactions at MerchantBridge. Dr. Soubra has more than 10 years of experience in the finance industry including Islamic banking, corporate finance and debt capital markets.

MerchantBridge is one of the few Middle Eastern financial advisory operations that can advise on cross border financing between Middle Eastern and Western markets, and Dr. Soubra’s global employment experience compliments MerchantBridge’s international offering. Dr. Soubra has lived and worked in cities including Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, Beirut and Doha, Qatar. At MerchantBridge he is responsible for originating and structuring Middle East and North African (MENA) investments into Europe as well as developing industrial projects into the MENA region.

Dr. Soubra’s career has spanned both the public and private sectors: he held various academic positions teaching business and finance before being appointed as Vice President and Head of Capital Markets Middle East at Merrill Lynch International. He then joined Tokyo-Mitsubishi International where he was in charge of structuring and originating debt products. From 1998 onward he was the Managing Director of Soubra & Co, an investment banking services company that acts as intermediary between MENA and Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) companies. Dr. Soubra also spent time as Director and Head of Commodity Finance at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, and most recently was General Manager for Product Development at Qatari Islamic bank Masraf Al Rayan.

Dr. Soubra holds a PhD from the Stern School of Business, New York University and an MBA from the University of Southern California’s Graduate School of Business in Los Angeles. He also attended the American University of Beirut where he gained a Major in Economics. He speaks English, Arabic and French.
