Merkel: Iran response not enough

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated Thursday that Iran's response to a package of incentives for it to stop its nuclear development appears unsatisfactory. The response is missing a ''decisive sentence'' on whether Iran will suspend uranium enrichment, she said.

''We are still examining it, but from everything that I hear we cannot be satisfied,'' Merkel said in an interview with N24 television.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Iran and Germany, thanks to their rich culture and civilization and talented nation, have always played an influential role in international developments. He made the remark in a meeting with the outgoing German Ambassador to Tehran Baron Paul Von Maltzahn.

Pointing to Germany's special status among European states, Ahmadinejad said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to bolster ties with Germany away from the influence of certain other countries."

Both nations will benefit from this issue, stressed the President.  He said, "Iran welcomes an independent role by Europe in resolving bilateral issues."
