Criticized by critics at home and frustrated by stalled migration discussions with the United States, Mexico’s Foreign Relations Secretary Jorge Castaneda tendered his resignation on Wednesday.
Castaneda is one of President Vicente Fox's closest allies and his most controversial Cabinet member and has been credited with increasing the country’s stature abroad.
Fox told journalists Wednesday that he hadn't decided whether to accept Castaneda's resignation and was considering asking him not to step down, AP reported.
"What I am doing is contemplating his request and deciding if I accept the resignation or if I should insist he continue" his post, the President said.
"On Monday, at the latest, I will be announcing a decision either way," Fox added, who refused to speculate on who he might name as Castaneda's successor. (Albawaba.com)
