Algerian police shot dead a “terrorist” near the city of Guelma, 500 km to the east of Algiers, reported El Khabar daily on Sunday.
In a separate incident, a policeman was killed in the Kabylie region's capital, Tizi Ouzou, said the paper, quoting security sources.
The area has for months been a stage for riots by the Berber ethnic minority, who are protesting against government policies and fighting for economic and cultural rights.
