A suicide squad of Muslim separatists struck at the heart of New Delhi Friday, killing three people, police said.

The group, in its first ever attack on the capital, stormed New Delhi's historic Red Fort late Friday and shot dead three guards, according to an unofficial police source.

The Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba has accepted responsibility for the attack, according to Delhi police.

The Mughal-built fort not only houses a military garrison, but is also one of India's interrogation centers where hundreds of Muslim separatists have been questioned in the past -- NEW DELHI (AFP)
