An Israeli officer who was killed Friday in Gaza was shot by the Israeli army and not by Palestinians, Israel’s Military Commander in Gaza, Col. Pini Levi was quoted as saying by The Jerusalem Post.

Major Sharon Arama, 25, was the victim of "mistaken shooting" by other Israeli soldiers and not by Palestinian gunmen in Khan Yunes, Levi said.

Arama, the highest-ranking Israeli officer to be killed in the eight-week Palestinian uprising, was scheduled to be buried Sunday at Ashkelon in southern Israel, according to AFP – (Several Sources)
