Kuwait's information minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah said Monday the ministry and the parliamentary education and guidance committee were in harmony over government-proposed press law.
"There is no difference between the legislative and executive authorities over the articles o! f the press law," Sheikh Ahmad told reporters after meeting committee members.
Sheikh Ahmad, who termed the meeting as positive, said the committee approved 80 percent of the law, according to Kuwaiti official news agency (KUNA).
They, he added, discussed all aspects of the press law "which should cope with the general freedoms and democracy."
The information minister said, "We understand all parliamentary opinions. Cooperation will be the key word in the future stage in a drive to have a law honoring ambitions of the Kuwaiti citizen."
Committee's rapporteur Hassan Johar was quoted as saying that the parliament and government agreed on need to scrap the prison penalty. "We have found great enthusiasm from the government and committee to finalize this bill ... according to a civilized, complete and modern formula," said Johar. (albawaba.com)
